What is doggy daycare?
Dog daycare works much like a daycare center for children. In the morning, you drop your dog at Canine Companions and then pick them up later in the day. During your dog's stay, they have a positive, active day, while you are busy doing other things.
For your dog, doggy daycare is all about fun. The day is blissfully spent playing with friends, sniffing, yipping, running and chasing. Instead of moping around the house in a state of anxiety and loneliness, possibly damaging your possessions, your dog hangs out with the Canine Companions staff and lots of cool dogs.
How does daycare benefit my dog?
The benefits of allowing your dog to attend doggie daycare are astounding. Besides having fun, doggy daycare has health benefits: fresh air, exercise, socialization, and a boost for the immune system. Pets stay fit, sleep better, and suffer fewer symptoms of stress.
For young dogs, it teaches them invaluable social skills that will help them learn how to properly meet and interact with a variety of other dogs. It also helps puppies with their potty training. Very hyperactive dogs are given a proper outlet for all of that energy, and dogs needing to shed a few pounds can do so by playing in the playgroups all day.
How does daycare benefit me?
People love daycare because it gets them off the hook, or rather, the leash! After a long day of doing business, you don’t have to rush home for a long walk following your dog until they do their brand of business. Instead, you can pick up your pet at Canine Companions and go home to begin your evening with more pleasant pursuits.
If your dog is in daycare, you don’t have to worry about the risks of letting strangers into the house. Dogs do not accidentally scamper out the door, keys aren’t lost, and the neighbor’s kid won’t get nipped or knocked over by an exuberant pet or one that feels like defending your home against invasion.
With daycare, your furnishings and possessions are safer because the dog won’t be home chewing, digging or lifting its leg in your living room (or bedroom). Daycare also assures you that neighbors will not be driven to the brink of insanity by incessant barking.
What does Canine Companions provide that makes daycare a happy experience for my dog?
Play areas are clean, supervised, and comfortable. Small dogs play with small dogs, large with large. Play areas have roofed shelters, fresh water, and exciting play equipment. Staff is attentive and trained.
During the hours of doggy daycare, may I make other appointments for the care of my pet?
Pet owners especially love doggy daycare at Canine Companions because it offers a convenient “one-stop” cornucopia of pet services. Dog grooming and bathing can take place while you are at work. Veterinary appointments and training sessions can be arranged to fit your schedule. Medicines and food are available for purchase. Fast, friendly, easy.
What if there is bad weather?
Canine Companions is a facility that has ample indoor areas to comfortably and safely accommodate all the daycare dogs when cold, rain, storms or severe heat make outdoor play unsafe.
What if there is an emergency?
Canine Companions is unique in the area because it offers an on-site veterinary hospital. Should your dog exhibit any illness or injury while at daycare, Canine Companions has a knowledgeable veterinary staff to respond quickly to medical needs.
How secure are the play areas?
Canine Companions’ fencing is high enough to prevent jumping out and grounded in concrete to prevent digging out. Double gates for entering the play area ensure that little Houdini, the escape artist, can be caught should he slip through the gate as someone is entering or leaving the play area.
How much does daycare cost?
People are surprised at how reasonable doggy daycare can be. Check out our Pricing and Policies page for more details. We also offer packages and specials based on frequency. Daycare can be combined with overnight boarding, training, and grooming; Canine Companions offers vaccines, checkups and other procedures through an on-site veterinary hospital.
How do I know if daycare is appropriate for my dog?
Daycare is not for every dog. Older dogs may have trouble adjusting to the commotion caused by a dozen or more dogs romping and playing in a large area; shy dogs may be overwhelmed by the crowd; and aggressive dogs have no place in a group setting. The staff at Canine Companions is experienced in recognizing signs of discomfort and temperament that may indicate your pet is not right for the daycare setting.
What sort of temperament do you look for in my dog?
Your dog must get along well with other dogs. Canine Companions staff at dog daycare will generally isolate aggressive dogs. If your dog is recuperating from surgery or has special needs, it will be cared for individually.
What is required for my dog to come to daycare?
Your dog must be current on vaccinations such as RABIES, DHLPP and Bordatella (kennel cough). There is no requirement for being spayed or neutered. However, non-altered dogs can be more aggressive and females in heat can cause tension between male dogs.
