For Immediate Release
Bloomington, IN – At Canine Companions Veterinary Hospital
there is hot news for pet owners: veterinarian Dr. Joanna Jones
now offers laser surgery. Long used in human healthcare, only recently
have veterinarians turned to laser technology. Canine Companions
is proud to be on the leading edge in the Bloomington community.
The energy from the laser beam seals nerve endings and blood vessels
as it moves through tissue, resulting in less bleeding, less pain,
and virtually no trauma to surrounding tissue.
“In essence, the laser is a superior scalpel. Only affected
areas are targeted, leaving healthy areas untouched,” Dr.
Jones said.
Additional benefits of laser surgery over traditional techniques
include less swelling, as only light comes into contact with the
tissue, and reduced risk of infection, because the high heat of
the laser kills bacteria as it moves through diseased areas.
Dr. Jones reports dramatic improvement in spay and neuter surgeries,
tumor and cyst removal, and claw and dental operations.
“Laser surgery has the benefit of making procedures safer
and less painful, so pet companions feel better, too, because their
animals are receiving more humane treatment,” Dr. Jones said.
What impresses veterinary assistant Sarah Grabner is how quickly
animals bounce back from laser surgery. She said, “Pets can
go home to their families much sooner, which makes all parties a
lot happier.”
